This site is dedicated to the memory of Josephine Oldfield.

After we had a chance to review Jo's personal effects and papers, it became clear to us that Jo did not wish to have a public memorial service. We have decided to honor her wishes, and will not be holding a public memorial. Jo's decline was so quick, we didn't have a chance to talk about her wishes. It also took us a while to clear the fog, to know just how we felt as well. There will be a private family burial in Iowa this fall. We want to thank everyone who reached out and expressed their thoughts and memories of Jo, or who donated to the Gathering in her name, we really appreciate it. We would like to hear from all of you and we want to encourage small gatherings, coffee dates, or messages from those of you who want get together to share a memory, a story, or a hug. We have updated our contact information and would like to hear from you. Warm Regards, Jane & Julia Julia Cross/Jane Timmins 3629 43rd Ave. South Minneapolis, MN 55406 cros0183@umn.edu 612 722 1016

Thoughts

Dear Jane & Julia, I'm very sorry to read of the sad loss of your beloved Mother, and although I don't know you; I want to offer my deepest sympathy to you. I hope these verses will bring you comfort. Acts 24:15 promises, "that there is going to be a resurrection." Many unexpected losses are due to what the Bible calls, "time and unexpected events (Or “unforeseen occurrence) overtake them all.." - Ecclesiastes 9:11b Our loving God doesn’t cause sad things to happen to our loved ones, as James 1:13 helps us to understand, ‘When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.’ For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.’” 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 speaks of God as “the God of all comfort who comforts (Or “encourages.”) us in all our trials ("Or tribulation.”) " 1 Peter 5:7 lets us know that we can “throw all our anxiety (Or “cares; worries.”) upon (God), because he cares.” Isaiah 65:17b tells us that "the former things will not be called to mind, (or, be remembered) nor will they come up into the heart.” - Thus the heartbreak that we experience now, won’t even be remembered after Jehovah God resurrects our loved ones; thereby undoing the sad effects of death and the pain being separated from them brings. Revelation 21:4 speaks of the time when no more sadness or cause for mourning; as there it assures us, "And (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And no sickness of any kind as Isaiah 33:24 promises, “no resident will say: ‘I am sick.’” Older ones will grow young again as Job 33:25, "Let his flesh become fresher (or, healthier) than in youth; Let him (her) return to the days of his (her) youthful vigor." When Jesus was on the earth, he healed all types of infirmities and even raised the dead; thus in the future, we can have the hope to see our loved ones again through the resurrection! - Jesus resurrected his friend Lazarus back to life, speaking of his death as being 'sleep' and saying he was going to 'awaken' him. - John 11:11-14, 23, 25, 38-45. Jesus also resurrected a young man, the only son of a widow, and a 12 yr. old girl. - (Luke 7:11-17; Luke 8:40-56) Then many will be resurrected to life here on an earth that will become a peaceful paradise where loved ones will be welcomed back to life! This time is told of at Psalms 37:10, 11, 29, "Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; You will look at where they were, and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it." Take care, and I hope that your memories are bringing comfort to you, perhaps by looking at pictures, and I hope that these and other verses will also help. - Romans 15:4 tells us, "For all the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope." Jane, This is Thai Herr (Tom). I used to work for your mom at West End. I hope you still remember me. Call me when you can. Sorry to hear about your loss. For some reason today I thought of you and your mom. I went online to search for your mom and found out that she had passed recently. May God be with her. She is a good person with great heart. She was a good boss. She will be missed forever. Bless you, Tom Thai Herr 559-761-7385

Dear Jane and Julia, I heard about your mom's death from a friend asked by Doris Blair Brown to let me know. I just received your card, thanks to our small post office back in Iowa. (We've lived in the Phoenix area full time for about 5 1/2 years.) Jo and I went to HS and church together and were close friends. When in Iowa for our 50th we went to church together, w/ Dorothy Roach Whitham. Jo was an excellent student, w/ tremendous integrity; and I'm sure that would have continued throughout her lifetime. I wish we'd kept in touch better. She and a friend talked about coming here a year or two after our reunion (when we were still snowbirds) and contacted me; but that trip didn't happen. I wish I'd seen her more. She'll always be remembered by me as a very special person. Pat Lowell McDonald
